Sgt. Bob Lundy of D/506th fondly remembers some of the places he used to spend time at in Swindon.

St. Mark’s Recreation Ground, at the heart of the then massive railway works,  New Town, Swindon- this still an open ’Green’ space today. This is somewhere fairs and the ‘Holiday at Home’ days were held. My mother, aunt, Bob and Walter Lipinski enjoyed spending time here in 1944.

Actually this was the Great Western Railway Company built swimming and turkish baths on Milton Road. The baths were boarded over to form a skating area. This was a very popular pastime and a nice way to get to meet the local girls. Many friendships were formed here. My aunt met Bill Miller of E/506th here, just one of many wartime romances which started out in life at the ‘Majestic’.
