James Lee Diel

Lt. James Lee ‘”Punchy” Diel was a former member of  ‘Easy Company’, 2nd battalion 506th during the Normandy campaign but got re-assigned to the 1st battalion, Able (A) company. He died close to the bridge in Son, during the attack of the 107th Panzer brigade on the 19th. He got a direct hit by the main gun of the tank.

Other veterans said that before attacking the tank, Diel shouted that he was going to earn his Medal of Honour with this action. Sadly he got killed.
