In the early hours of November 26 and after 72 days of front line action in Holland the 506th moved to Camp Chalons, outside of the Garrison town of Mourmelon le Grand, Marne, France. This was a large show piece French army barracks and training area that had opened in 1857. It was now the new base camp for the 101st Airborne Division. Advanced working parties had been preparing the camp for the arrival of the battle weary troopers.
